Cisterna romana di largo Zucchi

The complex is located on the Monte Mario hill.

The water cistern was discovered in 1957 during the landscaping of the widening between Via Evangelisti and Via Cadlolo: it was a circular basin (diameter 6.90), only half preserved, paved in opus spicatum with fragments of cocciopesto to waterproof the surface; the structure was bounded by a concrete wall (0.25 x 0.60 m.), connected to the level of the basin by a cocciopesto kerb. A walkway connected the basin to a rectangular room with a curved back wall, covered with hydraulic plaster and identifiable as a water distribution tank. The cistern must have supplied a Roman villa, probably belonging to the Gens Minucia, perhaps located on the site currently occupied by the church of the Madonna del Rosario, or on the site of Villa Mellini.
